The unfortunate man above has not been medicated with cannabis. His muscular spasms not only are excruciatingly painful, but are capable of breaking his own bones. He is being poisoned by the extremely potent neurotoxin Tetanospasmin, released by an infection of the pathogenic bacteria Clostridium tetani. He has tenanus.

The toxin released from the bacteria is very poisonous, with an LD50 of 2.5-3 ng/kg. This means that only 175 nanograms could easily kill a 70 kg (154 lb) human. It is thousands of times more lethal than nerve agents such as Sarin and VX, irrationally stockpiled by the World's governments, until thankfully prohibited by the Chemical Weapons Convention.
In 1844 a Geordie factory worker was severely injured by moving machinery. Unfortunately he developed tetanus. Dr. Potter of Newcastle Infirmary decided to use cannabis as palliative care -
